Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East, Obong Bassey Albert, had lauded Governor of the State, Mr Udom Emmanuel on what he described as ‘infrastructural renaissance’ in the College of Education, Afaha Nsit
The lawmaker, made the remarks during the 7th combined convocation of the institution, held Friday.
Albert, represented by a member of management team of his Scholarship Scheme, Engr. Promise Etim, in a chat with newsmen, said the Governor’s strides in the sector is commendable, and capable of preparing Akwa Ibom Youths to play active role in the Nation’s quest to revamp the educational system.
He lauded the leadership of the college for efficiently interpreting the dreams of the Governor, and adequately deploying available resources to restructure the institution.
Albert praised the institution for being a fulcrum for training of teachers, as well as stakeholders who contributed immensely to the recent upgrade of the college to a degree awarding institution.
Presenting the award, Provost of the college, Professor Matthew Ekpo, said the institution in recognition of Senator Albert’s educational empowerment strides, nominated him for the award, to serve as motivation to other public office holders, to consider educational empowerment as integral part of their programme.
Others who were honoured, were: Former Military Administrator of the State and Progenitor of the College, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga; Executive Vice Chairman of Exxon Mobil and principal of Inoyo Toyo Foundation, Mr Udom Inoyo, and an erudite scholar and administrator, Dr. Sylvia Imoh.
Graduates of the college were awarded Nigerian Certificate of Education, having satisfied conditions of learning and character.
